Amazing Progress - contains graphic images

Less than one minute read time.

c For anyone who may be interested in how amazing the body actually is at healing.  The first picture was 1 week post op.  The wound was as deep as they could go. The second picture was 12 weeks later.  It is my calf.  The scar now measures 10cm by 7 cm.  You'll notice the second picture also shows what is left of my previous operation.  That scar is 10 years old.  By the way, I was standing in front of a mirror to take this so I was bending down - hence the head in the picture!

I have spent ages massaging the scar tissue - particularly around the edges.  My physio got me started and it has really worked.  I even managed a 16 mile bicycle ride on Sunday - not bad eh.  I hope that this will help some of you who have yet to go through the operation - there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Be patient. Above all stay resting for absolutely as long as you can.  Allow the air to the wound and get massaging!

Best of luck to you all.

Amazing!! You are so brave I dont know how I would feel about having a wound like that.  I have had a mastectomy and as much as its shocking to wake up without a breast its a very neat thin line of a scar.  Well done with the cycling...I have just got mine out of the shed after a couple of years!! xx

Thanks both - that's lovely of you to say.  It's not easy, as I'm sure you know.  Chris, are you going to have a rebuild?  A friend of mine is having the fat from her tummy to make a new breast - she's over the moon as it's a win, win!

    Hugs Back!

No I wont be I'm sorry to say.  I got so close once but was diagnosed with secondaries a week before my op was due to go ahead so it all got cancelled and I have been told in no uncertain terms that its not going to get done now...disappointing but not the end of the world!! x
