Bobby Robson

Less than one minute read time.
Can I just say that my thoughts go out to Bobby Robsons family as he passed away this morning. He battled lung cancer, but also had the same op as me ( left maxillectomy ) 14yrs ago and was an inspiration.

Bobby actually died of malignant melanoma, which had spread to his lungs news.bbc.co.uk/.../4752385.stm and his brain.  Once again malignant melanoma is down played.  No doubting he was inspirational, but I wonder why it's not more widely know that he was suffering from melanoma?  Perhaps he also got fed up of telling people that it is actually quite a serious disease.

Yes he did die of secondary melanoma, he did go public with the disease and has a Bobby Robson Foundation which has helped with awareness not just of Melanoma, but with all oral cancer which is not just downplayed,  there is nothing of awareness in my experience to do with this diseas which is easily cured if detected early.

marsh your right of course.people often think its just a little mole cut it off!!!! there should be more awareness of all secondary cancers.

people often mistake the meaning of secondary cancer, although mine is breast cancer people think cos its in the liver now that its liver cancer, i even get asked if i drink a lot!!

so i hope when i go people know that i died of breast cancer, and not because i was a raving alci.

ah well for some i suppose ignorance is surely bliss.

ruth dont mean you lol, i mean the general public.

  • As A Newcastle fan, Bobby will be missed by all, he was a one off in this world and he gave so much more back with his foundation raising over £1.3m. He received a standing ovation at the BBC Sports Awards which lasted more than 5mins.

    RIP a great man.
