Pleasant distraction

1 minute read time.
I had my second chemo today (FEC) and still not sure how really how I feel. Lost my hair over the weekend which came as a suprise - more suprised at how quick it happened and how addictive it was to pull out!! Hair loss started on Thursday and by Monday morning I had to shave off the little that was left. Now worried about losing my eyebrows - but hey due to power of the internet I have ordered false eyebrows ! Who'd have thought it ! I feel quite positive about the whole thing so far apart from the ice cream head aches during treatment, the thought of being bald (too late now), putting on weight from all the comfort eating etc but am suprised how much I hate being centre of attention. I hate talking about myself and get frustrated with it. Also quite suprised how cold one's head can get ! I wasn't keen on forums as some of the one's I had looked at when I was initially diagnosed I found quite depressing but this one seems to be so much positive and supportive - hence my first blog - you all inspired me. Thanks for sharing your stories good and bad it is nice to read about similar experiences or to have some idea of what to expect x

  • Hi Your Royal Highness

Welcome to the site. It is a shock when your hair falls out so quickly. Lucky you have lost yours in the "summer" as I did last year. Not quite so cold at night!!!!

All my eyebrows did not disappear so I got very good at pencilling them in.

I did not lose my eyelashes until the 5th of 6 treatments but I was on TAC and not FEC so you may be ok.

Have now got very wavy hair and have dyed it blond as it was grey of course.

Had not seen my natural colour since I was 15 so it was a bit of a shock.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment

Let us know how you are getting on.

    Love

Thanks for your reply. I was nicknamed Princess Fiona as in Shrek by my 7 year old neice!  She did say it was when she was an ogre.............Im hoping it was maybe something to do with the hairloss.

I was told I was low risk to lose my eyebrows and eyelashes so now have a selection of false eyelashes and my "new" eyebrows are on there way as I'm already having to pencil the brows in.

Its funny a couple of people have mentioned to me that hair often grows back curly, I'm sure mine will be grey aswell as I have to dye it now.  Were you ok to dye yours straight away or did you have to use vegetable dye or something?

The ironic thing that still makes me smile is I'm going to be 40 in September and my Dad is more upset that his daughter will be bald at 40 while my two older brothers still have a full head of hair!

    Thanks again

    Fiona :)

  • Dyed it as soon as it was long enough to go without my wig. Had a test first behind the ear by my hairdresser. Had no reaction. No sense no feeling so went for it.

Tis one shade of blond as still too short for foils as I had different colours of blond before to make it look "natural"

My eyes were quite badly affected during chemo so was not able to use false eyelashes.

Still at least I was never sick and ate like a pig. Friends bought me chocolate cake which I love!!!!

Back to normal weight now and looking forward to reconstruction in November all being well.

Bald is not the best of looks but  your hair  will soon be back. All 3 of us in our "chemo club" now have wavy hair. The one girl - only 27 was a redhead before but it grew back brown.

Are you having radiotherapy after chemo?

Yes, three weeks of radiotherapy following the chemo - did you?  Did you have to wait for radio after the last chemo?

I cant believe how cold my head gets on an evening - its really quite an odd sensation isn't it?

  • I had my last chemo on 15th Sept and started radiotherapy on 15th October. I had 13 sessions over 5 weeks after the initial consultation and tatooing!!!!!

I started taking Arimidex on 13th October and have to take them for 5 years.

Expect you will be on different tablets as you are younger than me.

Yes tis a strange feeling being bald. Used to put a hat on in bed if my head was cold.

Which hospital are you receiving your treatment?

I had chemo in Worcester where I live and the radiotherapy in Cheltenham as we do not have the radiotherapy available in Worcester tho it is planned in the next couple of years.

How many FEC cycles are you having?

    Have you had surgery yet?
