    Second pre-chemo check went well.  Doctor was to change sickness tablets to take home after chemo.  In happy mood jumped on the scales getting to know the routine – to be told I would weigh a lot less without my handbag and we had a good laugh. My file had to be found before nurse would take my blood so I wondered why I had to take the blood form home with me.  Notice by ticket machine to say about cheaper…

    1. Never be afraid to ask if you don't understand
    2. If you note some thing you feel wrong in the system - speak up.  I found my chemo treatment was never ready on time and the wait was hours.  Now in this particular hospital patients rarely wait as the gap between the oncologist writing out the prescription and the pharmacist making up the treatment was increased.
    3. Be prepared to support others after you have finished…

    My DH is still poorly.  Had another restless night – not helped by having the bed sheet pulled off as he tried to wrap himself up like an Egyptian mummy.  I will put on the king size sheets to allow for tossing and turning.
     
    I was stroking his head, shoulder and back and he gave off little pop pop sounds in his sleep.  This I find comforting for both of us.  I found it brought down his blood pressure to the extent…

    At my follow up appointment after my operation I said that I was amazed my large tumour had not been picked up in the gynae department.  The consultant said that they were just looking at urinary problems.  Well I expected a gynae department to be able to detect problem of that sort given the size of the tumour.  I am now wondering if they do the same when it comes to cancer – just look in the area of their speciality particularly…
  • When Your Carer and Loved One is Poorly - Coping

    I am now into Day 5 of looking after my husband who is prostrate in bed with gastric flu– and I wish I could join him.  I am knackered.  Going up and down the stairs with drinks all the time reminds me we are supposed to be looking for a bungalow.  Thank goodness I was not sick too after chemo for ovarian cancer.
