Three months down the line

1 minute read time.

It's 3 months since J heard that he was in remission and he's just about to go in for his first 3 month check up, so it must be time to darken the door of this blog again for an update - and well, as usual, to express some of my darker worries that I don't seem to be able to say to anyone in real life.

The nice bit is that remission, so far, has been fanbloodytastic. J is doing so well. His hair growth is great and you can't tell to look at him that he's been ill. So far he doesn't seem to have any of the major side effects that people in his hodgkins group have reported post chemo. He does get tired and he has noticed his back twingeing a bit during cycling but nothing especially horrible. He seems to be getting stronger all the time. We have had a holiday to Egypt and we have climbed our first mountain since treatment. He is also back at work. He's still on a phased return as his company have been amazing. Actually that is a tip for anyone reading this - work for a big multinational company -they could not have done more for him.

Anyway that was the good. The bad I'm hoping might not be anything but it is niggling me. He is hoarse and has had a cough for 2 and a half weeks. It is not a nice chesty hearty cough! It is a dry niggly cough that does not seem to produce anything. I'm worried because this was preceded by a sore throat that he said he felt down in his thyroid. This worries me because when we saw the consultant and he said J was in remission he said there was an area of change in his thyroid but this was often seen after chemo and so he wasn't going to worry about it. Hmm. J is going to mention his cough at his appointment next week and I guess the blood tests will show if there is anything untoward. So there it is. I think I lied to myself and whoever I was praying to when i said i just wanted him to experience remission and it didn't matter if it was only a little remission. Total barefaced lie. I want him to have a remission that lasts forever....

I was only thinking about you and J a few days ago and I just visited this site and read your post - how did J's check up go?

I had my first 3 month check up a couple of weeks ago, and had a PET scan also. Thankfully everything was all clear (cancer wise), the only things that showed up on my scan were varicose veins and bursitis in my hips! Hope J had some good news also.
