About us

Less than one minute read time.
my name is Jodie and my beautiful mum has been diagnosed with terminal Lung cancer. It has spread but to what extent were not sure the main tumour is in her right lung and we know it's in her lymph nodes above her left collarbone. She is having another CT scan next week so we may know more then. She also starts chemo therapy on Monday 3 or 4 sessions 3 weeks apart. She has youth on her side (she is 54 and loves the fact that the doctors keep telling her she's young) and she is fit and well so she's got a lot in her favour and the moment. This blog will be my diary, of how her treatment is going and how we as a family are feeling and coping with it because although it's mum's cancer and her mortality in question it's hit us all pretty hard as we are a really close family. In some we I'm hoping that this will help me cope and keep me sane and if someone reads it and it helps then great. But it's really my therapy

    Hi Jodie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, it sounds like it's been a real shock for you and your family - I hope you're doing OK. Glad you've decided to keep track of your journey here, keeping a diary can be a really helpful way of understanding how you're feeling.

I can see you've already joined the lung cancer group, who are a lovely bunch and will be able to really identify with a lot of what you're going through. If you feel that you could do with some more support - now or later - you can always give us a ring. Our team are on hand to support you, to answer any questions you might have, or just listen if that's what you need. The number's available 9am-8pm Mon-Fri and is 0808 808 0000.

    Take care

Thank you for that, we're all doing okay, just having a family BBQ as the sun is out at the moment. Taking lots of photos before she loses her hair. I think we're all still in a little shock it's been a hell of a month but we're all being positive mum included if not most if all. We've (I we've because it's all of us going through it even though we all know its mum's fight) chemo tomorrow and we're taking shifts to be with her so she doesn't get bored of us. Will update tomorrow with how things have gone xx

Well it's C day, we're in Weston park hospital and so far so good although mum has been taking the wrong dose of steroids but it's only a little hic up, all still positive. Mum's nurse Laura is lovely and mum is trying to get rid of us so she can play on her new kindle. Think I'll leave her to it for a while, got to visit my oldest friend and give her mums news. Going to need lots of tea and tissues xx
