Dad Update

Less than one minute read time.
Not blogged before so not sure if i'm doing it right. This is an update from thursday. Dad has got an infection below his left lung. They thought he had swine flu but tests said not, they thought it was an infection due to hickman line so they removed it, x ray result tonite said an infection below left lung. He in ICU, he on meds to help raise bp as too low, he has really bad pain in chest but heart machine said heart good so think pains due to lung infection, he had three or four blood infusions, he on antibiotics for infection, they gave tamiflu as a precaution b4 they had results so he had that aswell, not eating. had two cuppas, breathless, just looks terrible. We;re so worried about him,Has anyone got a similar experience to share?

Its been ages so I though I would update things.

It turned out that the pain dad had in ICU in july was actually a heart attack which was devastating news. He has to have beta blocker tablets every day now.The doctors are very good at answering questions without giving an answer but we think it was due to both the infection and chemo that upset his heart. His latest pet scan showed no reduction in tumour size which also dissappointing.

This week we saw the consultant, basically they have run out of ideas for dad as they are limited to what treatment they could give to reduce tumour but not damage heart further. Dad had several ecg's prior to all chemo as heart has to be tickety boo before you can have it.

So he's giving dad a maintenance chemo treatment for three months which hopefully but not guaranteed to keep tumour quiet and same size

which will buy dad some time to build himself up a bit more and hopefully his heart will improve further so he could have some stronger treatment.

We feel angry that in this day and age there appears to be no treatment for dad due to his heart.

The dr said if dad wanted to he could have further chemo treatment. he's had R CHOP and MINI BEAM but this is strong stuff and there would be huge risks involved, possibly an infection which would lead to further cardiac problems which could be fatal.

Its so frustrating, Dad had his stem cells removed and he was hoping for a transplant once tumour had gone so what now???????? Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences which might help ? xx
