Help / Advice Please

Less than one minute read time.
Help please ! My dad is very frail and but still eating a little he has been been constantly burping for over a week. His GP, Community Nurse & Macmillan Nurse have no idea why (unaware of it as a side effect from any of his medications) Has anyone else had experience of this before ? Have read lots of blogs and saw a medication called carbamazepine which apparently stops the body going into spasm, will suggest this as the poor man is exhausted and also if he burps and coughs at the same time, he cannot breathe which is also another serious problem ? Any advice would be VERY much appreciated. Debie

    Hi Debie,

Know nothing about burbing as a side-effect to anything but have you tried good old fashioned peppermint cordial? A little sip followed by a back rub to get the wind up in one go. Can't do any harm can it? It also helps to settle the stomach, as does ginger. Sometimes the simple old fashioned solutions are the best.

Let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes, Shelagh

Hiya, my father would strongly recommend Woodwards Gripe Water available without prescription, usually found with 'baby' stuff. It is excellent at relieving colic, wind, hiccoughs etc. Dad is a medical doctor and not easily given to recommending medicines or specific products, so this really must be exceptional!

I wish your dad well - and all the best for 2009.
