Confused and scared

Less than one minute read time.
I am new to this do I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. My dad has lung cancer and they are not operating, he has tiny amounts on his liver. He was diagnosed in July 2012 and now he is receiving stronger chemo, he is very tired and coughing up more blood. Is this due to the chemo??? I'm going to see him next week as he lives in France and wax in the middle of building his house when he was diagnosed. We want him to come home, wondering how hard this is?? I'm confused with what's going on with him as I can't directly talk with his doctors or consultants. Any information would be appreciated.

    Hi Mharleyella,

This must be a very difficult and scary situation for both you and your father. It is probably the chemo that is making him very tired, but coughing up blood could be due to the lung cancer itself. As you don't know the full details of his diagnosis or drug regimen it's not easy to advise you, so I think your best bet would be to talk things through with a Macmillan expert on their support line. The number's free, open Mon. - Fri. 9am - 8pm, and is near the top right of every page, as well as under this post.

They should also be able to make suggestions on how to get him treatment back in the UK. I'm assuming he no longer has a GP here so would need too register with one first, unless you wanted to take him straight to the nearest A&E. Anyway, the Macmillan nurses would still be your best avenue.

Also, I think you should join the Lung Cancer and Being a Relative groups here, where you will find lots of support. I do hope your visit to France will enable you to find out more about your father's treatment.

    Love & hugs,

Thank you so much, on my return I had some notes translated and it appears he has fluid build up on the left side of his brain to. I'm going to speak with the nurses tomorrow, he is very secretive about his diagnosis and doesn't want to talk about it, guess that's his way of coping. We get his results tomorrow from his last scan so very nervous tonight. Thank you twirly x
