Good News from JobCentre Plus

1 minute read time.
Just as well I have a sense of humour. I finally got around to applying for incapacity benefit and filled in all the relevant forms and sent them off last week. The telephone rings this morning and a young lady on the end says she is phoning from the Job Centre Plus about my claim. The conversation starts with something along the lines of 'Our medical advisers have looked at your claim and have confirmed that you do not have a terminal illness - that's good news, in one way, isn't it? I was a bit taken aback but managed with my usual sarcasm to say "Fantastic, could they let all the consultants I have been to know and drop a line to him upstairs that he got it wrong this time" I then asked how they came to this conclusion given I hadn't sent in any medical reports from anyone ' I don't know she said, the claims are outsourced to a medical team' I then told her I was already getting the higher rate DLA and had a DS1500 " Oh" she said 'that's strange, I suggest you appeal in writing and send in another DS1500 plus medical certs from the period you have been absent from work" Apparently, there is no way of them checking the DLA and tying the two up together - that would take lateral thinking so I have to go to my GP (again) wait for the relevant forms to be completed and then appeal in writing. Why do they have to make life so difficult? Me, I'm off to purchase some champagne and a new Mercedes given the good news I have received from the JobCentre Plus this morning.
