Benefits webchat – Thursday 26 September

Sarah Presto and Steve Clark, Macmillan benefits advisers

Next week, Sarah Presto and Steve Clark from the Macmillan Support Line will be joining us in the chatroom to answer your questions about benefits for people affected by cancer.

Whether you have been diagnosed with cancer yourself, or you’re supporting someone who has, there’s a wide range of benefits and financial support out there. But finding out what you’re entitled to and how to apply can be really tricky, especially with changes to the rules coming in this year.

To take part in the chat, just join us in the chatroom on Thursday 26 September between 12 and 1pm.

If you can’t make it then, post your question in the comments below, and we’ll ask it for you. All the questions and answers will be published on our chat transcript page after the chat.

Or, you can also speak to a benefits adviser like Sarah or Steve by calling freephone 0808 808 0000 (Mon-Fri, 9am-8pm).

  • Can you please ask a question for me as I won't be able to log in Thursday lunchtime. I am now going from Full Pay at work onto SSP.  I have been told that I will be entitled to a maximum of 28 weeks SSP.  I understand that if I am still unable to work after this time that I can then start claiming some sort of disability allowance?  Can you give some more details of this please?  Is is a similar figure to SSP?  Thank you.
  • Hello Margaret, no worries, we will definitely take your question to our Welfare Rights team.  In the meantime, if you want to speak to Macmillan about any money worries, or benefits advice, you can contact our support line free from UK landlines on 0808 808 00 00 9am-8pm weekdays.  Take care Laura Su
