patients report the experience of going into an appointment with a head full of
questions, but simply forgetting to ask them all. Having cancer brings a
mountain of new information, and it can be overwhelming to try and remember
everything you’ve been told.
understanding complex medical terminology, keeping track of all your
appointments and test results, or trying to manage your medication and side
effects, it’s a lot for anyone to take in.
we’ve created the Macmillan organiser. It’s a free tool that helps you keep
track of all the information you need in a handy binder. It has log sections
for your medication, tests and results, and places to make a note of your side
effects, changes in mood, and record what medical staff tell you. We hope it
will help cancer patients feel a little bit more in control.
Share your experiences
for some Community members to test out the organisers and share their
experiences with the rest of the Community in a blog. We’ll send you a
Macmillan organiser, and we’d like you to blog about any day-to-day aspects of
your cancer journey, including examples of how you’ve used the organiser to
write just one post for us – but if you’d like to write more we’d welcome that
as well. Ideally, we’d be looking for posts of around 300-500 words.

own free Macmillan organiser online. You can also get refill pages if
yours is full.
I know how it feels. My husband has cancer of the lung. He was diagnosed in January 2012. We have went through the once a week appointments now on the once a month appointments till October so we have plenty of experience of speaking to the Doctor. Most of the time we would only speak to the nurse and found she was more help and more approachable than the Doctor. I usually remember more to ask than my husband. However there is always the occasion when he gets to the car and says "I meant to ask the Doctor about such and such". I now write everything down. We recently changed oncologists as our last one had to leave on pregnancy leave. Unfortunately our last appointment was to meet our new oncologist. Not a nice experience. He was obviously running late and had no time whatsoever to speak to us after we had waited one hour. Even speaking of the experience really upsets me. I only hope we don't see him on our next visit to the Beatson and only speak to the nurse.
I'm sorry to hear about your husband, and that your new oncologist hasn't treated you with the sympathy you need. I hope that you find some support here on our Community. I'm glad to see that you've already found the Lung Cancer group. You might also be interested in the Carers group, where you can share your experiences with others whose loved ones are living with cancer.
You can also give our Macmillan Support Line a call if you need to (0808 808 0000, Mon-Fri, 9am-8pm). They're there to listen if you need to talk, and the specialist cancer nurses can also give support and information about medical issues.
