When it comes to how cancer will be treated, and where you will receive that treatment, you have the right to choose.
You might worry that you don’t have enough information to make that choice. What are your treatment options? How are they given and what are the possible side effects? What are the best hospitals for those treatments?
We are trialling a new type of web-based information tool called ‘Choosing your treatment and care’. This aims to give you more information about your colon and rectal (bowel) cancer treatment in hospitals across England and to help you make decisions about where to have your treatment.
There is already a lot of information about hospitals and the services they provide, but not all of this is published in a way that you can easily understand and use.
Using our tool, you can search for hospitals using their postcode, town or name of hospital. The results will return a list of hospitals that provide treatment for colon and rectal cancers. You can then select a single hospital and look at information about it or compare up to three.
We have taken information from peer review assessments, patient experience surveys and other sources and presented it in a way that we hope will be more meaningful.
We really need your feedback to help us understand whether this information is useful. There are links to a main feedback form within the tool along with quick feedback options to tell us if particular parts of the information are more or less useful. For the trial period, we are focusing on colon and rectal cancer services in England. Depending on the results of the trial, we may develop information for further cancer types and services in the other UK nations.
