This is where you can find out about all the amazing things going on in the Online Community. It's where you'll find news about events and awareness months; ways to get involved with Macmillan and up-to-date campaigning news from Macmillan HQ.
Today we've asked Simon from our Campaigns Team to update you on our Infi-knit petition in this guest blog post. We'll be hosting regular guest blog posts from people who have something interesting or important to say to you, so keep an eye out for more coming soon. Over to Simon:
Fuel Poverty is a serious issue for some people affected by cancer and we're determined to not let the government ignore the problem. We asked you to add your name to our petition to freeze out fuel poverty, and a massive thank you to the more than 5,000 of you who did. We'll be taking your names to the government, and calling on them to help people affected by cancer keep warm without worry, but first the scarf is going to be put to good use... This is Dr. Joe Geraghty, and he'll be taking a bit of the scarf to keep him warm on his trip to the north pole. Temperatures can drop to as low as - 45C, so he'll need all the help he can get! Joe is a gastroenterologist, and has been doing research in to new techniques for diagnosing and treating bowel cancer. He said: “My trip to the North Pole will be difficult, but it won’t compare to the journey that people living with and beyond cancer undergo. It is simply not right that 1 in 4 people affected by cancer will have to turn their heating off in winter even though they are feeling cold. I’ll be using the scarf to stay warm, but hopefully Macmillan can put it to even better use and help people affected by cancer keep warm without worry.”
Stay tuned to the Campaigns blog for news on the hard-working scarf petition's journies to the North Pole the heart of government and beyond!
