'Orange Juice' with Leena

1 minute read time.
Been over to see dad again today & he still looks remarkably well, considering what his body has been through these last couple of weeks. Officially the hospital is STILL closed to visitors because of the norovirus bug, but we we allowed to visit as long as we stayed in the garden & on of the day rooms. So that was nice. Took the children to visit again and Amy was very curious as to why grandad was having what looked a bit like orange juice drip fed into his body!!! So, here's where he is now... He's currently having platelets fed in to help his blood to clot better followed by a saline drip. With all these drips he's been having he's on first name terms with 'Leena', his faithful drip-stand friend!!His temperature has been pretty stable with a few blips where it's risen a tad so he's also been having intravenous antibiotics. He's also got a rash across his body & the docs believe that it's due to the antibiotics he's been having, so will look to change that this week. This morning they were a little concerned that his heart rate was slow. Dad naturally has a slow (ish) heart rate, inherited from his mum! The docs checked him out and didn't seem overly worried as when he moved around it increased again. I have read that some types of chemo can affect heart muscle function so assume that's what they are checking for?? In a weeks time he will have his bone marrow tested to see what progess has been made, and then all being well - fingers crossed - he will be able to go home for a couple of days before he starts the next cycle of treatment. I really hope he gets to do that as he's dying to sit out in his garden in all this lovely sunshine we've been having.

    Hi, Clarebear,

Orange juice made me chuckle. My drips after op looked a bit like some dodgy home - made Rose Wine I used to make in the eighties - yeeeuuuk! Glad you have a wee bit of "sunshine" at last. Thinking of you all, and hope things are on the up & up.

Will be great if Dad gets home for a bit.

    Love

I suppose we all have different names for our platelets, my grandsn calls it "vampire goo". Hopefully it won't be long now before your dad gets home. Bert is home at the moment but expected to go back in next week for his 4th cycle

Give our love to your dad.

Thanx for your messages & thoughts.  Aren't kids funny..they take things in such a matter of fact way and keep everyone cheered up!!  I hope Bert is well, and hope that his 4th cycle of chemo goes smoothly.  Does he suffer many side effects?  I believe that my dad is due to have 3 or 4 cycles of treatment.  Take care, lots of love xx
