screening for lung cancer

Less than one minute read time.
Hi all I just wondered why there is no screening for lung cancer given that it is very common in a certain age group and more treatable if detected early. Surely a simple X-ray could be used? If anyone has any positive lung cancer stories they'd be welcome. We're still waiting for my dad to see the consultant this week so know very little thus far. Annie x

Hi Annie.  A feasability study is underway into screening for lung cancer, its led by Professor John Field of the Roy Castle Foundation and Liverpool University.  I am the patient representative for the study.  When I was diagnosed with NSCLC, because of a midiagnosis in the first biopsy that was taken I was not expected to survive 3 months which I was told.  However I never 'read the script' and that as now stretched to over 20 years.  I hope the doctors have some positive news for your dad, please let this site know how you go on.  Thinking of you at this anxious time.
